In the book I'm reading "Trusting God" by Jerry Bridges, I just finished up the chapter "Knowing God's Love." I believe this has been one of the best chapters in the book so far. I found this section very convicting as Jerry starts by saying,
"A friend of mine who spends a good amount of time encouraging others found himself distraught over the spiritual struggles of one of his children. In desperation he cried out, 'God, I think I'm doing a better job taking care of Your children than You are of mine.' He told me, 'as soon as i said it I repented to the Lord.' Nevertheless, his frustration experience illustrates a point. most of us are tempted from time to time, to question God's love for us."
He goes on and talks about Job, who faced numerous calamities yet still said, "the Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised" (Job 1:21). it was interesting though that in Job 34:5,9, Job came to the place he questioned God's goodness. He said, "God denies me justice" and "It profits a man nothing when he tries to please God."
There is so many ways God's loves in all of scripture, but one of the most so is when he sent His only son, Jesus! John 3:16 is a clear place it tells us and also in 1 John 4:9-10, there are so many place to find God's love in the scripture! Jerry said this, " I ounce heard a speaker said, 'anything this side of hell is pure grace.'" I never really thought about it about it like, it really opened my eyes to how abundance God's grace was. Yet, because we are in Christ God looks on us with the same love he looked on his son Jesus. that is really good news!
